About Us

Created for people who have tried everything. Before there was a website, a product range, or beautifully designed packaging, there were small pots of body balm with people's names handwritten on the lids. Each one was made for someone who needed help with their skin or those who just want look after their skin. Someone struggling with dry skin. Someone living with eczema. Someone looking for relief after trying countless products that promised much but delivered very little. Our story began with a simple desire: to help people feel comfortable in their skin again. In 2016, our co-founder Ryan Smith, a certified nutritionist, began creating natural body balms for his private clients. His approach was different. Rather than focusing on trends, he focused on nourishment. He believed that if carefully selected natural ingredients could support wellbeing from within, they could also support healthier-looking skin on the outside. So he started formulating products using nutrient-rich oils, butters and botanicals with scientific supportive evidence. There was no branding. No marketing campaign. No business plan. Just people seeing results. One jar at a time. Around the same time, Mary, who had marketing and industry experience working in the beauty industry, training retail teams and customers on skincare products asked Ryan to try his creams. When she tried one of Ryan's cream. She immediately recognised something special. But it wasn't just the product. It was what people were saying. Clients were sharing feedback with tangible results. What started with handwritten labels quickly became a growing community of people who felt they had finally found something they could trust. Customers tell us our body balms are the only products they trust for their children's skin. Others tell us they've used them for years and won't be without them. Many share how our products have helped support skin affected by dryness, sensitivity and eczema, while others simply tell us how good it feels to finally find a natural product that genuinely works. One customer wrote: "It is the only thing that actually helps." Another shared: "I will continue to buy these balms again and again." And perhaps our favourite feedback of all comes from families who tell us our products have become part of their everyday lives. From Handwritten Pots to Customers Around the World The products may look different today. The handwritten names have been replaced with refined packaging. The kitchen-table batches have evolved into professionally manufactured products. But our purpose remains exactly the same. Every Mary Smith product is still proudly made here in the United Kingdom and crafted with the same care and intention that inspired those very first jars. Today, we ship globally to customers across the UK, Europe, the United States, the Middle East and beyond. Yet every order still represents something deeply personal to us. A customer looking for relief. A parent searching for something gentle enough for their child. Someone wanting to feel confident in their skin again. Why We Exist We don't believe skincare should be complicated. We believe people deserve products they can trust. Products created with purpose. Products made with ingredients chosen for what they do—not simply how they sound on a label. Everything we create is guided by one simple question: Will this genuinely help someone? Because that's how Mary Smith began. Not as a beauty brand. But as a solution for people who needed one. And that's still who we are today.
